Adventure tourism is one of the nation's fastest growing forms of recreation. Whether you are coming to Washington state for a vacation or to the Gorge in George to see a Dave Matthews Band, rafting is a great way to complement a trip to Washington State.

Geographically, the state of Washington is divided in two by the Cascade Mountains. The Cascade mountain range include such popular peaks as Mount Baker, Mount Rainier, and Mount St. Helens, just to name a few. You see, from a river point of view, most the rivers on the west side of the Cascade Mountains drain into the Puget Sound region, or from east to west. Most rivers on the east slopes of the Cascade Mountains drains from west to east and dumps into the Columbia River. This gives us a big differences in climates on each side of the mountains. On the east side, we see hot, sunny summers and cool dry winters. On the west side (Seattle side) we get cooler, wetter summers and milder and wetter winters. This differences of ecosystems provides for much diversity of outdoor activities in Washington State.

Washington State Tourism and White Water River Rafting

White water rafting is one of the most accessible adventure sports today and Washington State is one of the only states in the country that truly offers year-round rafting. Spring runoff from high in the mountains feeds rivers like the Wenatchee and the Methow rivers, clear summer springs provide water to the Nooksack and White Salmon, fall dam release brings white water to the Tieton River, and the rain Seattle is known for supplies year-round water to rivers like the Skykomish. Each river offers a different environment, from dry desert to lush river gorge, and each is a unique experience.
